Alaska, The Word and Wally Hickel

This is a clip from a one-hour public TV documentary I wrote and directed that aired in 2013. It tells the story of how Hickel, a political maverick from Alaska who was Richard Nixon's Secretary of the Interior, came into conflict with the president in 1970 over the administration's attacks on young people who were protesting the Vietnam War. The Body’ Secret Army: Jamie’s story

This half-hour documentary aired on public television in 2011. Commissioned by Nobel Media in Stockholm, it looks at the human immune system. This clip tells the story of an Atlanta woman whose struggles with a rare immune deficiency provide dramatic proof of just how essential the immune system is to our lives.

The Body’ Secret Army: Sharon’s story

This sequence tells the story of a young woman diagnosed with a deadly cancer who enrolls in a trial of an experimental new treatment that seeks to harness the power of the immune system. We meet scientist James Allison, who in 2018 was awarded the Nobel Prize for this groundbreaking work.

Security vs. Liberty: The Whistleblower

I wrote, produced and directed this one-hour film for the 2007 PBS series America At A Crossroads which looks at the debate over counter-terrorism and civil liberties. This clip tells the story of Mark Klein, a former AT&T employee who accused the communications giant of secretly allowing the National Security Agency to tap into the Internet traffic of all Americans. Someone’s Watching: The FBI and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Someone's Watching is a two-hour documentary I wrote and produced that aired in 2004 on the Discovery Times Channel. It examines the renewed controversies over government eavesdropping in the wake of 9/11. This clip tells the story of the FBI's wiretapping and bugging of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. For my work on this film I received the Writers Guild of America Award

I was a senior producer and co-writer of this two-hour examination of the JFK conspiracy theories that aired on ABC in 2003. In this sequence about Lee Harvey Oswald, I conducted the interviews with his brother Robert, author Gerald Posner, and former KGB officer Oleg Kalugin. The film won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best News Documentary.

Thomas Friedman Reporting: Searching for the Roots of 9/11

I produced and directed this documentary that follows Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman as he talks with Muslims in the Mideast and Europe about the September 11th terrorist attacks. It aired on the Discovery Channel in 2003.

Through Many Lives: The Aging Brain
Sally’s story

I wrote and produced this one-hour episode in the 2001 PBS series The Secret Life of the Brain, which won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Science Programming. This sequence tells the story of a woman who is struggling with with Parkinson's Disease, and the research her doctor is doing to try to harness the power of stem cells to one day repair the damaged brain.

The Orphan Trains

This is a one-hour episode of the PBS American Experience series that aired in 1995. I wrote the film and produced and directed it with Janet Graham. It tells the dramatic story of the little-known social experiment that from 1854 to 1929 sent more than 100,000 poor or orphaned children away from the cities on trains to find new homes in the country. The Orphan Trains won an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Writing and was an Emmy nominee for Outstanding Achievement in Directing. You can purchase a DVD from shoppbs.org or from Amazon.
